ARA NINI means ‘good health’ in Itsekiri.

Our aim is to create safe spaces for women in our communities to learn about their health and how to advocate for themselves. For many of us growing up, health was not a topic of conversation. The lack of education begins from early years with many topics not being discussed and taboos surrounding periods, our bodies, fertility and gynaecological conditions.

At ARA NINI, we believe education and awareness around health and wellness topics is important. We want to encourage women across different backgrounds to start having these conversations in spaces where they feel the most comfortable. For many of us, we feel the most comfortable when we look after ourselves, such as getting hair done, nails etc. and when we gather with our friends and family. We will be bringing these essential conversations to these spaces; where women are the most comfortable, have their guards down, having fun and being themselves.

By having these open conversations, we hope that our community will not only learn but spread the word and teach their loved ones to learn about their bodies, health and also continue to advocate for themselves.
